There's a secret to surviving in these times, a secret to longevity that most of us have forgotten. It's very simple, as most remedies for over-complexity must be. The best way to get by, day after day is to eat food.

Ah, so obvious you say. But hardly anyone eats food anymore; everyone eats food- products . If you bought it in a carton or can, a box, baggie or seal-wrap, then it's not food, it's a food-product. Food would be beans. That's right, just beans brought to a boil. Or greens. That's all; fresh plants chopped into a bowl, not the pseudo-nutri-garnished shredded cardboard confetti shot into a plastic clamshell and trucked all over refrigerated wastelands just so green shoppers can pretend they're eating lower on the food chain.
This is a critical distinction to make. Food is food, and food-products are what we commonly mistake for food. This difference has been forgotten for so long, that today people cram their pie holes full of the most unrecognizable crap, and imagine that's just the way it's supposed to be. Well, it is for now, but not for long. What will it take to snap us out of our snack-trance delirium of auto-ingestion?
Everyone who currently confuses food-products with food is also deeply mesmerized by the common delusion regarding where food is obtained. Right now, your average eater is convinced that the only way to eat is to buy food products from a store, and not food from some person they actually know. You know, like we did for most of human history, during the dark, pre-modern days when we all had to pay personal attention to our food-supply , because food didn't magically appear like today.
But very few people today buy food, we all buy mostly food-products, and we're paying for far more than the food itself. I'm guessing most food-products contain some food (among other nasties) but it's deeply embedded within it's carbon casings, and only exists because far more energy was spent making it a product and trucking it 1500 miles, than there is actual energy within the food itself. And even then it's too cheap, and not a reflection of actual costs at all. Yummy, isn't all that diesel simply delicious! But it's choking us to death at the same time. For most of that same human history, nobody suffered under food products, nobody had to get their food from a store or a drive-up window. The food came from other human beings, from your family and your neighbors. Maybe it came in some kind of a container, but never a package. Food was something shared often and purchased seldom, not the reverse.
You don't think we're suffering under food products? Heart disease, diabetes, cancers, and more are considered to be food-related illnesses. But they're NOT. They are food-product illnesses, death-ride diseases we gladly order from our daily menu of madness. We are made sick by that which is supposed to keep us healthy. What the he'll happened?
And you'd think all this would be really obvious. After all, don't we have a zillion food shows on a million food networks for people proud to call themselves foodies ? It might appear we are obsessed with food, addicted to food, enslaved by strange cravings, and compelled to waddle the trend-mill of endless diets
But it's not true. Food is absent these prime-time scenarios. None of these viewers are aware that our fixations are upon food-products, not food itself. The vast majority of industrial eaters have become so bizarrely disconnected from reality, that we recognize no distinction between food and food-products. Between food and food-supply. Between life and death.
I suggest we forget about thinking outside the box, and do our best to simply EAT outside the box. Eat from a bowl and not a little styrofoam box; buy your food from a non-corporate entity (yes, a real living person) instead of a Big Box. Or grow it yourself for the best episode ever of your own reality show called My Daily Supper .
What could it hurt? What would happen if we got real food from real humans, people we know and love? What if we bought fewer food-products and grew more food for ourselves, for our neighbors? We would be happier and healthier, and have more real friends with real faces. And real helping hands for when the going gets really tough.
